What inspired this book?
I was inspired to write LearnMoneyFirst after my wife and I realized that, despite earning multiple college degrees and building successful careers, we had never received a formal education in personal finance.
We understood how to earn a living. We had never been taught a practical system for managing money, eliminating debt, investing, or building long-term wealth.
In 2012, we decided to take control of our financial future. We built a structured financial plan — and committed to following it.
Over the next seven and a half years, that plan helped us become 100 percent debt-free, including paying off our home mortgage.
That journey changed much more than our financial situation. It gave us greater clarity, reduced our financial stress, and gave us the freedom to make decisions based on opportunity rather than debt.
I wrote LearnMoneyFirst to take what we learned through that experience and create a practical system that other individuals and families could use to improve their own financial lives. That journey became the foundation for this book.
